Since 2010, Sweden’s 21 regions have been engaged in the collaboration Sustainable public procurement in the Swedish Regions.

The Region’s secretariate for sustainable procurement coordinates and manages processes that support operations. The secretariate supports the regions’ procurement officers and sustainability strategists in their work on sustainable procurement.

The work is carried out on behalf of the Management Network for Regional Procurement (LfU) and the Regions’ Sustainability and Environmental Managers’ Network (RMC). They appoint a steering group that leads and coordinates the work.

The regions are responsible for identifying risks, setting goals, and following up on contracts. The regions that collaborate on procurement matters form a purchasing region and are responsible for specific, prioritised procurement categories. Each of the eight purchasing regions (A–H) has a coordinator.
